Help celebrate "Read Across Jamaica Day"
Volunteers will “Journey to Jamaica” to participate in two key activities
while focusing on literacy and public service.
Volunteers will enter classrooms to achieve these tasks:
- Engage students in literacy activities that reinforce basic literacy skills
- Encourage students (struggling readers) to gain a love and appreciation for reading
- Discuss visionaries (i.e. global leaders, dreams and aspirations)
Tentative Itinary: (TBD)
- Includes: Reception @ Blue Beat Jazz Restaurant, St. James Parish Library (Afterschool Storytelling Hour), a cultural education trip for volunteers & a Teacher Stress Relief Session
This
Literacy Project is designed to increase collaboration between the
partnering organizations and the participating schools. This will
help to increase communication between teachers & students
and engage the students in joint activities to promote basic literacy
skills.
Individual volunteer responsibilities:
Airfare from your local airport & Program fees: $500-750 depending on # of days.

There
will be time for individual leisure and a cultural group activity to
explore the island. Ground transportation and housing is covered in the
program fees.
